The post holder will play a lead role in the content creation and delivery of effective internal communications and engagement strategies within both UK Power Networks. A primary focus will be delivering communications that support the business to achieve its Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) vision of ‘beyond zero’ supporting the step change in our journey from ‘Good to Great’ safety performance.
This role reports to the Head of Communications, Engagement and Learning and Development. The post holder will play a lead role in managing a fully integrated internal communications and engagement strategy exploiting a wide array of channels and tactics for maximum impact so that that our communications are accurate, thought provoking, impactful and consistently delivered.
The successful applicant will prepare content for a wide range of channels including: company intranet, internal magazines, PowerPoint presentations, Yammer, monthly Team Brief, Sharepoint, supporting the wider Communications Team within UK Power Networks. Experience is required of content design, filming and video editing.
The post holder will implement proactive strategies to enable us to be recognised as an employer of choice. In part, this will involve engaging with the wider UK Power Networks workforce to gage feedback and ideas so that these can be incorporated in future plans and strategies ensuring we continually evolve and develop our communications strategy in-line with the business requirements.
Working with the Head of Communications to deliver integrated communication and engagement plans aimed at employees and contractors.
Provide reporting on key metrics and measures against communications channels engagement.
Developing new and innovative strategies that align to UK Power Networks objectives such as Podcasts, interactive video content etc.
Internal event management support with pre-event planning, facilitation and post event assessment.
SHE Communications focus:
The lead communications representative at quarterly CHSEC (safety committee) meetings with Directors to present safety communications content. Monthly SMT meetings and monthly SHE steering group meetings to present SHE Communication strategies and plans.
The primary point of contact responsible for working in collaboration with our Trade Union colleagues to co-create monthly safety message content.
Production and presentation of content on SHE Communications at wider CELD meetings and other internal meetings as required.
Production of content for all communication channels including In The Know magazine, WellAware, Team Brief, safety campaigns, safety posters, films, moments and briefing packs, yammer, intranet and network comms emails
Filming and editing of SHE films and Learning Points on a monthly basis
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Previous experience in a communications role, coupled with familiarity of a range of successful communication channels. (Minimum 2 years)
A proactive attitude and approach to internal communications campaign management.
Excellent written communication skills with an eye for accuracy and consistency.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Experience using programmes such as Adobe Photoshop, In Design, Premier Pro.
Strong project management skills.
Results orientated, pro- active, enthusiastic approach and resilience under pressure.
Energetic, strong team player.
Team working – The drive and ability to work co-operatively with others to achieve shared goals and optimise the contribution of an array of stakeholders.
Working on communications within a SHE / safety function.
