Overview

My client works with the largest operators in the most demanding and hazardous industries, where reliable and robust safety systems are critical for the protection of personnel, plant and the environment.

They have over 20 years’ experience in industry, where ensuring the safety of workers and the asset is paramount. They have TUV Functional Safety Certified engineers ensure best engineering practice in accordance with IEC 61508.

The client operates within the following sectors, Renewables, Marine, Oil and Gas, Energy, Industrial and Tunnelling.

Your role within the company is a PLC engineer, reporting directly to the Project Manager.  You will be providing technical support and working as a team with other engineers within the company.  As a PLC engineer you will be encouraged to support and train apprentices.  Whilst the role would be mainly office based in Manchester, there would be requirements to go to site in the UK and in some instances abroad (Europe).

The role would also require you to be responsible for the delivery of technical aspects of projects, but also support project management tasks required to ensure the company maintains the project deliverables.

Person Specification

Essential

You should have a strong background in field control engineering and ideally have an appreciation of safety related projects.
Strong documentation skills, with a capability of designing an excellent standard of FDS, SDS, FAT and SAT documents are essential.
You must be familiar with several of the interfacing protocols that are common with integration of control system PLCs would be required, protocols such as Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, OPC UA.
You must have a strong teamwork mentality and be willing to provide support and guidance within a team.
Committed to ensuring that any projects are technically and administratively supported, which would involve having a pro-active approach to answering a reasonable level of emails/telephone calls inside and outside of working hours.
Capable of gaining security clearance to work within secure marine applications (SC Clearance).
A full driving license.
Educated to a degree level.

Electrical Background
A capability of designing electrical control panels and schematics would be advantageous, as well as having some experience with networking and Cyber Security compliance to ISO27001.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provide technical support for technical matters within the company.
Assist with technical advice within the company advising the Project Manager/Managing Director.
Ensure timely delivery of projects defined in the project review meetings.
Support in the process of delivery of timesheets/expenses to administration and ensure holidays are booked through the correct procedure.
Ensure timely delivery of DPRs for all sites and evaluate for impact to the project.
Ensure that the company configuration management policies are being adhered to by all staff.
Responsible for the assessment of the DPRs being reported to the Project Manager.
Delivery FAT systems.
Ensuring all project deliverables are met and any issues reported to the Project Manager in a timely manner.
Be available during all working hours via telephone or email to support the above.
Be aware of Health and Safety implications for site and the office and ensure high standards are maintained within the office/site and engineering staff.
Supportive with the Siemens Partner Program.
Provide a good positive work ethic for all projects and deliverables.
There is also a requirement for the engineer to be trained to work in the offshore industry and be able to support offshore work should there be an urgent requirement.
