As THA continues to expand its impact, we seek a highly skilled and experienced Director of Accounting who will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization's financial health and stability to join the team. Reporting to the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, this position will oversee all aspects of accounting, cash management, and grants administration, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving efficiency and effectiveness to support the overall success and achievement of the organization’s mission.
This is a full-time, exempt position. Remote work is allowed, but the incumbent must reside in the state of Texas and will occasionally be required to attend meetings and perform certain portions of its duties on-site at our administrative headquarters in Austin, Texas. Responsibilities:
1. Financial Leadership:
Provide insights and recommendations in areas of expertise to drive effective decision-making.
Establish and improve processes and procedures that comply with policy and maintain strong internal controls.
Collaborate with other leaders to support organizational goals and mission.
2. Financial Reporting:
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
Provide senior leaders with the information necessary to monitor their revenue and expenditure in relation to budgets and other goals.
3. Full Cycle Accounting:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Manage the reconciliation of bank statements and other financial accounts.
4. Government Grant Administration and Compliance:
Manage the financial aspects of government grants, including the preparation and submission of reports and billings.
Ensure compliance with grant terms, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Collaborate with program managers to track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring alignment with funding guidelines.
5. Cash Management:
Develop and implement effective cash management strategies to optimize liquidity.
Monitor and forecast cash flows to ensure operational needs are met.
Evaluate and recommend banking relationships and services to enhance cash management efficiency.
6. Audit and Compliance:
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Stay current with nonprofit accounting standards and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
7. Team Management:
Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
Delegate responsibilities and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Compensation:
Based on job duties and requirements, this position is placed in pay grade 49 with a full-time, annual salary range of $107,000 to $128,000. The actual salary will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
Proven experience in nonprofit accounting, preferably in the healthcare sector.
Demonstrated experience with government grant administration and compliance.
Experience with modern accounting software and reporting systems.
Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting.
Solid understanding of cash management principles.
Ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse stakeholders.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
