Job Role for the Laboratory Supervisor:

Characterization and analysis of anode active material with the responsibility of operating an array of internal analytical equipment (e.g. SEM-EDX, TGA, PSD, BET, tap density and true density) and data analysis/management.

Provide other teams with reliable, reproducible results.

Execute adequate pre-experiment review before laboratory work is begun (e.g. COSHH and risk assessments) and provide guidance to other staff in this area.

Line-management of approximately 3 QC operators.  

Support team-members to ensure work-priorities are met in a fast-paced QC laboratory environment.

Support maintenance of the laboratory and facilities.

Monitor and assure reliability to quality control techniques/processes relevant to the business needs.

Working in compliance with company policies and ISO9001 and ISO14001 and approved analytical procedures.

Identify areas for improvement and actively promote Health & Safety culture aligned with company H&S policies and procedures.

Coverage of some weekend work when required.

The successful Laboratory Supervisor will have the below experience:

Understanding of an analytical laboratory environment and facilities required e.g. environment controls, safety equipment, gas lines and monitoring, electrical safety.
Management/supervision of junior colleagues and demonstrated ability to support their development.

Excellent communication skills to ensure positive relationships within the team and with other departments.

Detailed understanding of requirements of CoSHH, Risk Assessments and Health and Safety processes within a chemical laboratory environment.

Ability to operate Analytical instruments (e.g. BET, TGA, PSD, SEM-EDX) by the prescribed procedures to the standard required to meets the needs of the company.

Direct experience of BET, TGA, PSD, SEM-EDX, is an advantage.
Rigorously compile electronic records of experimental laboratory data, whilst maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

Excellent attention to details, check other team members' results for error and omissions, and ensure that all work is recorded and reported as appropriate

Follow prioritisation and indications, organise daily work routines to guarantee the completion of the planned activities

Understand and support long term goals and objectives of the Team

Ability to effectively prioritise and run in-parallel multiple characterisation work streams

Ability to handle rapid throughput and changing demands, prioritisation and working pressure

Collaborate with others to execute project goals to meet customer targets and accelerate commercialisation of the business.
