Overview:

The Coordinator for Review & Child Protection plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective provision of social work and review services within the Local Authority for children who are in need of, or may require, a child protection plan, as well as looked after children. This role involves chairing child protection conferences and looked after children's reviews, facilitating the development and review of care plans, providing consultation to internal and external stakeholders, and promoting fair access to services while adhering to relevant legislation and policies.

As a Coordinator for Review & Child Protection, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the Local Authority fulfills its obligation to provide high-quality social work and reviewing services to children who are in need of, or may require, a child protection plan, as well as looked after children. You will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating child protection conferences and looked after children's reviews in adherence to relevant legislation and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

* To take responsibility for ensuring the Local Authority discharges its duty to provide a quality social work and reviewing service to children who may have or may need a child protection plan and looked after children.

* To chair child protection conferences and looked after children’s reviews in accordance with the Children Act 1989, Children & Adoption Act 2002, Children Leaving Care Act 2000 and Children Act 2004, Working Together 2018, Care Planning and Placement regulations 2011, the IRO handbook and the Family Justice Review 2011.

* To undertake home visits to see children and young people using a relationship social work approach and maintain contact with children between meetings.

* Chair meetings restoratively and therefore reduce areas for conflict and disagreement, if conflict or disagreement does arise have strategies in place to manage this

* To promote effective internal and external communication, providing guidance, advice and training to internal and external agency workers and members of the public in relation to looked after children and child protection processes

* To ensure that child protection plans and care plans are developed and reviewed to ensure good outcomes for children and young people.

* To provide consultation to the wider service and partner agencies about child protection and care planning.

* Ensure that children, young people and family members are appropriately informed of procedures and processes and are supported and encouraged to make a full and active contribution to meetings

* Promote fair access to services by challenging discrimination and oppression in accordance with the Equal Opportunities policy, and ensure services take account of the cultural, religious and linguistic background of children and their family and meet the relevant Equality Standard

* To promote a child focused service, which includes ensuring that children, families and professionals are aware of and have access to the Complaints and Representation Process and advocacy as appropriate

* To ensure delivery of services to children, young people, their families and carers, is in line with legislation, guidance and local policy and procedures
