Job Description
We have multiple openings for Facility System Engineers to apply advanced knowledge in support of ongoing operations and modifications in DOE Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities. You will apply advanced technical knowledge in the mechanical engineering area to maintain the assigned mechanical systems. These systems include containment ventilation, cryogenic liquids and compressed gases, gloveboxes, and fire suppression systems. These positions are in the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate.
These positions will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
In this role you will
Monitor the operational status of assigned systems to anticipate the need for maintenance, repair, or replacement of structures, systems, and components (SSCs) due to aging.
Provide engineering technical support for the troubleshooting, repair, modification, and operation of assigned systems.
Apply engineering experience, knowledge, and judgment to successfully resolve complex mechanical system problems and issues.
Apply the principles of configuration control, revise and develop design and other documentation for proposed solutions.
Identify, monitor, and provide recommendations for the timely procurement and assurance of adequate inventory of spare parts for assigned systems.
Develop and review of facility/system related procedures and work instructions to ensure technical adequacy and ease of implementation.
Conduct reviews and provide advice to mid-level internal management, customers, and colleagues on system-related design, operation, and maintenance issues.
Prepare detailed assessment reports for facility management on the results.
Recognize and support plans to promote and foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability within the workplace.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities at the TSS.4 level
Lead others in the development of solutions and approaches to maintain the operability of assigned systems, including troubleshooting, repair, modification, and operation.
Develop and deliver technical presentations to programmatic clients, SD senior management, and DOE/NNSA Livermore Field Office / Headquarters, plus be able to field any associated questions.
Represent the organization as a technical resource and provide subject matter expertise in the design, maintenance, and operation of ventilation, compressed gas, gloveboxes, and fire suppression systems.
Provide mentorship for early career engineers to facilitate knowledge transfer and to foster a collaborative environment.
