Job Summary
The Director will be responsible for the overall legal and be the in-house counsel at the firm. Knowledge and experience with contract terminology, composition and management is necessary. This position requires the ability to communicate using legal and architectural industry terminology. This individual will have excellent patience, management and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work as an individual contributor and team player.
Review and negotiate contracts according to internal policies and processes
Communicate with clients, consultants, and attorneys during negotiation process
Provide recommendations and revise agreements as needed
Manage contract documents and provide updates to administration
Ensure compliance and track contract status
Review agreements for language and grammar
Collaborate with legal counsel and other teams to monitor projects
Analyze agreements and recommend changes or new forms
Maintain positive client relations during negotiation
Resolve conflicts in negotiation process
Handle insurance-related responsibilities for the firm
Manage state registrations and business licenses
Must have worked on AEC contracts and on large commercial project while also worked on smaller residential projects
Previous experience working on large volume of contracts is required
Qualifications:
Law degree is required
12+years of related work experience and has been a legal counsel for a company of more than 300+ employees (familiarity with AIA documents and contracts is a plus)
Clear and concise written, verbal and email communication skills are required
Intermediate user of Outlook, Word and Excel preferred
Able to independently manage time and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines
Able to maintain a high level of discretion with confidential information
