Job Description
The BEAM Senior Physician will work with the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Medical Director to help design, implement and oversee the BEAM program and other SUD special projects. BEAM is the Bringing Expanded Access to MOUD program, and MOUD is Medication for Opioid Use Disorder.
BEAM will provide 24/7 telemedicine access to buprenorphine, one of the FDA-approved medications to treat opioid addiction. BEAM engages people interested in treatment, assesses them for opioid addiction, prescribes medication if appropriate, and provides care coordination following the telemedicine encounter. Additionally, this position will collaborate on and lead other clinical interventions to reduce overdose mortality.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and implementing clinical interventions aimed at reducing drug overdose deaths and harms that are identified by the SFDPH overdose response efforts
The primary responsibilities initially will be overseeing the clinical operations of the BEAM Program – Bringing Expanded Access to MOUD
Providing supervision and management of Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Manager, and telemedicine on-call providers Collaborating with BEAM partners and DPH groups to ensure cohesion from the time the call is answered to after visit outreach and follow-up
Partnering with SUD providers who accept linkages to ensure continuity of care plan for patients after initial telehealth visit in collaboration with the BEAM Patient Navigator Manager and Patient Navigator
Developing protocols for Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) after hours access and referral process
Being available during daytime hours to support clinical or logistics questions or BEAM patients in connection with the BEAM Nurse Manager and BEAM Patient Navigator Manager
Developing training materials for BEAM prescribers, developing feedback mechanism for clinical decisions, arrange opportunities for case discussions, review provider charts for credentialing and quality assurance
Reviewing clinical workflows and adapting and innovating based on patient outcomes
Participating in presentations on data and outcomes to Overdose Executive Leadership Team
Adapting workflows and program structure to develop a long-term sustainability plan for BEAM
Oversee administrative support staff who assist in shift scheduling, data, meeting facilitation and other project support
