Focussed on providing high quality Mechanical inspection and Non-Destructive Testing services on behalf of the Stage 2 ‘collaborative’ project team and supporting the Stage 2 Quality Manager in ensuring that all Mechanical related SDP Stage 2 works are carried out in accordance with the client’s, regulatory and legislative requirements and that the products and systems meet design intent.
• Proactively support and advise the SDP Stage 2 Project on Mechanical quality matters.
• Attend Quality, Engineering and Start-Up meetings with contractors / suppliers, as required.
• Approve Suppliers and Contractors quality related documents including the review and approval of Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans to ensure that the activities will demonstrate that design intent has been met.
• Review of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) documentation including qualifications.
• Ensure a process / procedure is in place to prevent cross contamination of materials.
• Ensure process / procedure is in place for Foreign Material Exclusion.
• Ensure process / procedure is / are in place to prevent Counterfeit, Foreign and Suspect Items (CFSI) entering the SDP supply chain.
• To conduct inspections at the contractor’s / supplier’s premises.
• Ensure the welder is qualified to perform the weld and that prolongation (if applicable) has been / is being maintained.
• Ensure material control and traceability is being maintained throughout manufacture and installation.
• Ensure that the Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS’) complies with the material type and thickness.
• Ensure that the correct consumable has been used in compliance with the approved Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) and that weld consumables are controlled.
• Perform visual inspection of welds and materials.
• Witness / perform NDT testing in-line with NDT qualifications and approved procedures.
• Ensure that the fabrication meets the dimensional requirements of the isometric/drawing.
• Undertake receipt inspection of equipment at the Rosyth site.
• Undertake line walks of the installation to ensure that it matches the design and where required components / systems have been correctly labelled.
• Completion of Inspection and Check Lists / Certificates.
• Sign-off of Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
• Review of Lifetime Records (Mechanical)
• Contribute to Lessons learnt.
• Contribute to the performance assessment of contractors and suppliers.
• Contribute to the performance assessment of SDP.
• To assist the SDP Stage 2 Quality Manager in ensuring that any quality non-conformances / quality issues are managed and closed out.
• Willing to travel to supplier locations / sites throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.
Essential:
• CSWIP Level 3.1 Welding Inspector or 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector
• PCN level 2 – e.g Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic Testing, Radiographic Interpretation.
• ONC/HNC Mechanical Engineering/BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent experience
Desirable:
• To have security clearance or ability to attain it.
• Experience and knowledge of Mechanical Inspection requirements related to the Nuclear Industry or other highly regulated high hazard industry
