Position Description:
Under supervision, assists in performing skilled technical work including, but not limited to, the installation, calibration, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of electronic equipment, pneumatic equipment at water pollution system sites and control centers; performs periodic testing of and preventive maintenance on instrumentation and controls; analyzes malfunctions; and performs related duties as required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in the operation of test apparatus such as Diagnostic Test Equipment (DTE), using established testing procedures to produce, regulate and record effects of actual or simulated conditions; prepares reports interpreting test data to useable terms; may direct other technical personnel assisting in test procedures.
2. Assists in the performance of diagnostic, corrective and preventive maintenance on complex electronic systems and instruments, including analog pneumatic and digital electronic equipment; install, test, troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controller interfaces located at a wastewater treatment facility.
3. Assists in maintaining records of work performed; developing documentation for the maintenance, installation, removal and modification of electronic systems and equipment.
4. Assists in the install and inspection of new equipment; evaluates performance under operating conditions; assists in the design, fabrication or modification of fixtures, instruments, and related apparatus; and verifies and evaluates dimensional and functional acceptability and performance of such devices.
5. Operates special power or hand tools and measuring equipment including soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, analyzers, calibrators, hand generators, power suppliers and other instruments used in operating, testing, calibrating or repairing electromechanical and electrohydraulic apparatus.
6. May operate and use specialized tools such as: pencil soldering irons, coaxial cable crimpers, volt-ohm meters, coaxial cable TDR and VSWR meters, and various power tools
7. Orders and tracks repair parts needed; assists in locating part numbers, equivalent replacement devices, vendors, and suppliers.
8. Assists in interfacing with vendors and suppliers in gathering initial estimated costs of new or replacement equipment and services.
9. Maintains and organizes the parts room by tracking and maintaining appropriate level of inventory.
10. Operates motor vehicles to respond to service calls, work sites and conduct other work-related activities.
Nature of Work:
This position is located at a wastewater treatment plant; employees in this position may be exposed to raw sewage during the course of their normal duties.  Involves considerable physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; continuous exposure to physical and working conditions where moderately serious injuries may occur; exposure to working conditions that are somewhat disagreeable in underground locations; and may require lifting up to 50 lbs. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Normal color vision and a high degree of mechanical dexterity are required. Work in this classification requires proficiency in computer software applications.
