Job Title:         Head of Science

Location:         The Grange Therapeutic School, Knossington, Oakham

Salary:             £40,000 per annum

Hours:             37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am–4.30pm (4pm Friday) 

Contract          Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Science to join our close-knit team at The Grange Therapeutic School located in Knossington, Oakham.

About the role

Main duties

To plan and deliver the Science curriculum to timetabled groups and monitor Lower School Science.

To support pupils in achieving ability appropriate qualifications in Science.

Participate in Safeguarding and Safety Intervention (SI) training and always be vigilant of the pupils’ well-being and welfare in any interactions with pupils.

Inspire, motivate and challenge pupils in the delivery of the curriculum across the year groups.

Take responsibility and be accountable for the academic outcomes of pupils taught.

Contribute to the pastoral care of pupils and support their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Monitor academic progress of the pupils in a form group.

Maintain positive relationships with parents/carer of the pupils in an allocated form groups.

Essential

QTS

Experience of working with pupils with SEN

Knowledge of outstanding classroom practice

Understanding of SEN and its impact on learning

Ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff quickly.

Knowledge of safeguarding good practice.

Knowledge of the Primary and Secondary curriculum.

Knowledge of the challenges facing pupils and parents with SEMH issues

The Grange Therapeutic School is an independent special school for young people aged 8 -18 years with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Our school is based in a Victorian country house near Oakham with stunning views and fantastic facilities to develop not only the educational, but also the social and emotional needs of our pupils. With access to woods and lakes on site, the school has an ethos about delivering a personalised curriculum tailored to, and driven by, the individuals. Behaviour is currently rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.
