EUMETSAT is Europe's meteorological satellite agency, operating satellites that monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

EUMETSAT operates a growing fleet of Earth Observation satellites in Low Earth and Geostationary orbits, focussing on the provision of satellite data services to its Member States and to the European Union Copernicus Programme.

In partnership with ESA and other international organisations, EUMETSAT contributes to the development of several Copernicus missions, for example Sentinel-3, Sentinel-6 and High Priority Copernicus Missions such as CO2M, in order to later assume the responsibility for routine operations. EUMETSAT also develops capability to process global ocean data from CRISTAL and CIMR polar regions monitoring missions.

Reporting to the Ocean Altimetry Programme Manager within the Copernicus Mission Development Division and supported by a team of engineers, the System and Operations Preparation Manager is primarily responsible for the system development and preparation for operations of altimetry missions, including the recurrent Sentinel-6 satellites, and the EUMETSAT contribution to the Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-6 Next Generation Topography missions.
Aufgaben What you'll be doing

Develop system and operational concepts, identification of drivers and lead necessary technical assessments and trade-offs to specify, design and implement the system;
Establish, consolidate and maintain system requirements, architecture and technical and performance budgets, ensuring their apportionment and full traceability to user requirements;
Establish, maintain and implement system development and operations preparation plans, capturing the development logic, the relevant management and coordination aspects, as well as the mechanisms for the handover of system elements to the operations and maintenance tams responsible for routine operations;
Monitor the development and maintain overall consistency of the system across the development of the spacecraft, the launcher, the LEOP, the ground segment and the establishment of the operations of the system;
Manage system and operations preparation teams and coordination of activities with other EUMETSAT teams, partners and entities involved, including the scoping, planning and monitoring of resources and the technical management of industrial and service support contracts as necessary;
Support to programme management with participation in external and internal meetings, including EUMETSAT Council and other Delegate Bodies;
Ensure compliance to quality assurance and configuration management requirements and identify of project risks and of mitigation actions.
Profil Requirements

Qualifications

University degree in space-systems, aerospace engineering or equivalent.

Skills and Experience:

Minimum of five years' experience in system engineering in operational space earth observation systems with real time components;
Minimum of three years' experience in management of engineering activities, including resource planning, allocation and monitoring, as well as team coordination;
Experience in system architecture definition and development, with complex and multiple interfaces with good knowledge of system development lifecycles;
Experience of industrial service-support contract management would be advantageous;
Experience in satellite operations would be advantageous;
Independent thinking, ability to develop abstract concepts and to handle uncertainly and ambiguity in complex solution trade-offs and optimization;
Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and units of an organisation.
