Design Manager

We are recruiting a Design Manager for a project near Kilburn Park for our client, a London based Design & Build Contractor.
Project Overview:
The project involves the refurbishment of two Victorian buildings, demolition of a reinforced concrete (RC) community hall, construction of a steel-framed extension for a nursery, and the construction of two RC residential blocks. The objective is to seamlessly blend historical preservation with modern design elements while ensuring functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal across all blocks.

Design Development:
* Lead the design process for all blocks of the project, collaborating with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive design concepts.
* Ensure that design proposals align with project objectives, client requirements, and regulatory standards.
* Incorporate sustainable design principles and innovative solutions to enhance the environmental performance and efficiency of the buildings.

Coordination and Integration:
* Facilitate coordination between different design disciplines to ensure integration and coherence across all aspects of the project.
* Collaborate with the construction team to translate design concepts into practical and feasible construction plans.
* Review and evaluate design submissions from consultants and contractors, providing feedback and guidance as needed.

Historical Preservation and Restoration:
* Develop strategies for the preservation and restoration of the Victorian buildings, respecting their historical significance while incorporating necessary upgrades and modifications.
* Work closely with conservation experts and heritage authorities to ensure compliance with preservation guidelines and regulations.
* Research historical architectural elements and materials to inform design decisions and maintain the authenticity of the buildings.

Value Engineering and Cost Management:
* Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize design solutions without compromising quality or functionality.
* Collaborate with the project management team to establish and maintain budgetary targets for design-related activities.
* Evaluate cost implications of design alternatives and provide recommendations for cost-effective solutions.

Quality Control and Assurance:
* Establish and enforce quality control measures to maintain design integrity and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
* Conduct regular design reviews and inspections to identify and address any discrepancies or deficiencies.
* Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards in all design deliverables.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
* Proven experience in design management for construction projects, particularly in refurbishment, demolition, and new construction.
* Strong proficiency in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar programs.
* Excellent understanding of construction techniques, materials, and building systems.
* Familiarity with historical preservation principles and regulations is highly desirable.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
