Job Description
Hiawatha Collegiate High School (HCHS) seeking a dedicated Dean of Instruction to join us for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
  Job Summary
  The Dean of Instruction at Hiawatha Collegiate High School (HCHS) will be responsible for supporting a powerful vision for student achievement and for motivating others toward the realization of that vision. They will work directly under the guidance of the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Senior Academic Officer. The Dean of Instruction must strategically support the Principal and the school’s mission through effective leadership and management of the school’s staff and students. The Dean of Instruction will provide support for the instructional program and help to foster a school environment that prepares every student for success in college and in life.
  Responsibilities

  Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of school
Foster a school climate aligned with the mission and values of the school that supports both student and staff success and promotes an achievement-oriented culture of respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and families
  Drive Results
  Research, design, support, and/or supplement the academic curriculum for all subjects and grades based on successful models and approaches
Analyze school-wide data to design responsive student interventions, and devise and monitor high-impact support plans for struggling students
Ensure high standards for student behavior, performance, and attendance
Address any disciplinary issues immediately with support from the Dean of Students and/or the Principal
  Instructional Leadership
  Observe lessons regularly and deliver targeted feedback to teachers
Facilitate regular, meaningful data-driven discussions about student performance with teachers to ensure that teachers are using current data to drive instruction
Work with teachers to improve their teaching practice through coaching, professional development, modeling, and collaborative planning
Ensure consistencies in instruction and practice among team of teachers
Ensure consistency in English Language Development strategy implementation across the school
Ensure learning environment and classroom instruction maximize student learning
Coordinate and manage creative, inspiring professional development sessions in line with school goals and priorities
  People and Program Management
  Effectively communicate vision that supports the school’s goals and values
Coach and manage a cohort of teachers
Oversee the design and evaluate the effectiveness of the school based
  ELD programmatic vision
  Coach and manage instructional coherence in service of English Language Development for all students
Manage and coordinate testing, including but not limited to network interims, MAP testing, MCAs, and ACCESS testing
Participate in staff recruitment
Continually monitor progress on all measures of school and staff performance
Support teachers to hold all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations
  Relationship-Building
  Build effective relationships among teachers, families, and the community to improve student performance
Contribute to an effective, collaborative team of people jointly responsible for the attainment of school goals and committed to achieving excellence
Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position, while serving as a contributing member of the school team and a dedicated role model for other employees
  The Dean of Instruction must demonstrate knowledge of and support Hiawatha Academies’ mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  *Perform other duties as required and assigned
  Minimum Qualifications:  
  Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of two years’ experience working in a school that is disrupting educational inequity with strong success
A minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience with demonstrated student results
Ability to effectively manage, coach, and develop instructional staff
Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with colleagues
Demonstrated leadership experience
Possess a growth mindset
Possess cultural awareness of self and others
Excellent judgment in decision-making
Knowledge and ability in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
Ability to understand, appreciate, and interact within diverse cultural contexts
Experience working with students of color and/or students growing up in low-income households
  Preferred Qualifications:
  Minnesota Teaching License
Master’s Degree preferably in Education, Education Leadership, School Administration / Supervision, Curriculum and Instruction, or relevant field
Advance Professional Certificate with an endorsement as Principal/ School Administrator
Bilingual or multilingual (Oromo, Amharic, Spanish, Somali, and / or Hmong)
Previous successful experience in school leadership
  Compensation: The starting salary range for this position is $65,000 - $69,998 based on years of experience in an equivalent role. Salary will be prorated to the start date and based on FTE. Employees are paid bi-monthly.
  Benefits: This position is benefit eligible the first of the month following the start date. A generous contribution toward health and dental insurance is provided by the network.

  Hiawatha Employment Logistics
  HCHS students’ school day is from 8:45am-3:45pm, Monday-Thursday and 8:45am-2:00pm on Friday.
Staff must be present from 8:15am-4:15pm, Monday-Friday, or until all duties are completed for the next day. 
Professional development sessions are held each Friday from 2:15pm-4:15pm.
All Hiawatha Staff are expected to attend and participate in all family events at the school.
