The role of a Health and Safety (H&S) Manager is crucial for ensuring the well-being of employees, compliance with regulations, and the overall safety of operations. To play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, and regulatory compliance within our organisation. This position requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to managing quality control processes, implementing health and safety measures, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Health and Safety (H&S) Manager - Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay abreast of local, national, and international health and safety regulations applicable to the aerospace industry (e. g, FAA regulations, OSHA standards) and ensure the organisation's compliance.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

Conduct risk assessments for various activities, identify potential hazards, and develop strategies to mitigate risks effectively.

Health and Safety (H&S) Manager - Safety Policies and Procedures:

Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and protocols tailored to the specific needs of the industry, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, and maintenance operations.

Health and Safety (H&S) Manager - Training and Education:

Provide training and education programs to employees at all levels to promote awareness of safety issues, proper procedures, and emergency response protocols.

Incident Investigation:

Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, or near-misses, analyse root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Emergency Preparedness:

Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters, and conduct drills to ensure readiness.

Safety Audits and Inspections:

Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards or non-compliance issues and take corrective actions as necessary.

Environmental Health and Sustainability:

Address environmental health concerns related to aerospace operations, including waste management, pollution control, and sustainable practices.

Supplier and Contractor Safety:

Ensure that suppliers, contractors, and third-party vendors adhere to safety standards and requirements when working on behalf of the organization.

Continuous Improvement:

Monitor safety performance metrics, analyse trends, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture and performance.

Reporting and Documentation:

Prepare regular reports on quality and safety performance for management review.

Maintain comprehensive documentation related to quality and safety processes.

Safety

* Champion a culture of safety by enforcing strict adherence to health and safety regulations, promoting a safe work environment

* Ensure safe systems of work are being followed. Stay up-to-date with UK aerospace industry regulations, guidelines, and standards, and ensure the company's compliance. Interpret and apply safety regulations, including those specific to aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, and testing.

Quality

* Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive quality management system that aligns with industry standards such as NADCAP, AS9100 or ISO 9001.

* Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and certifications specific to Nasmyth Group.

* Maintain accurate records of quality tests, inspections, and audits in accordance with regulatory and industry requirements.

* Develop and maintain company-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and protocols. Identify potential hazards and assess risks in all aspects of operations, including manufacturing, testing, and maintenance.

Cost

* Lead continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean, and root cause analysis to enhance efficiency and reduce defects.

* Address customer complaints and concerns related to product quality and work towards effective resolution to reduce costs.

* Identify potential quality-related risks and implement preventive measures to mitigate their impact on products and processes.

* Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify non-compliance and areas for improvement. Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.

Delivery

* Establish quality control procedures for incoming materials, in-process inspections, and final product testing to ensure adherence to specifications.

* Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to identify and address potential non-conformities and deviations from established standards. Generate regular quality reports for management review, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.

* Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.

* Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, and aircraft accidents.

People

* Conduct training programs to educate employees about quality standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent understanding of quality assurance.

* Foster open communication channels across departments, including engineering, design, and logistics, to ensure seamless collaboration and information sharing.

* Lead a team of quality professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and support to ensure a cohesive and high-performing quality department.

* Organise and conduct safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.

* Ensure that employees are adequately trained in emergency procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.

Health and Safety (H&S) Manager - Skills & Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e. g, CSP, CIH) may be preferred.

2. Previous experience in a similar role within the aerospace industry or a related manufacturing environment.

3. In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA, FAA, ISO 45001, etc.

4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.

5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with employees at all levels and collaborate cross-functionally.

6. Leadership abilities to drive change, promote a culture of safety, and influence stakeholders to prioritise health and safety initiatives.

7. Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement in safety performance
