Mechanical Systems Engineer

Several roles exist for proven engine design engineers to join an established diesel and hydrogen engine manufacturing company in Derbyshire, UK.

The positions are aligned to systems engineering and could suit mechanical design engineers that have designed components and systems for gasoline or diesel engines but are more aligned to systems level activities.

NOTE, these are not CAD design position but involve systems level design of engine systems (systems specification, creating of test and validation plans, design tolerances, DFMEA and problem-solving activities, etc) and working with suppliers that will provide detailed level designs.

Backgrounds in one of the following areas would be required:

* Valvetrain design (DOHC / SOHC, etc)

* Major castings

* Cooling Systems

* CCV (Crank case ventilation)

* Aftertreatment (e.g., DEF etc)

* Fuel systems (fuel delivery, handling. H2 would be very useful)

* Air handling (e.g., intake manifold, throttle, etc)

As a systems engineer you will have senior responsibility for engine design and will work within a multiskilled base engine mechanical design team.

Together you will be responsible for the ongoing design and development of diesel and H2 engines (new and existing programmes) and will work with internal development and test teams as well as external suppliers.

Required experience / knowledge: Mechanical Systems Engineer

* A degree or higher qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical design, automotive engineering, motorsport, agricultural engineering, etc)

* Minimum of 5 years of engine design experience gained post academia (gasoline / diesel / H2)

* Experience of the design of engines for applications such as automotive, motorsport, agriculture, rail / rolling stock, marine, power generation, etc.

* Previous CAD experience (able to read and manipulate CAD drawings)

* Experience of systems level design (technical specifications, breaking down requirements, validation activities, DFMEA, DVP&R, 8D problem solving, etc)

* Experience in one or more of the following engine design disciplines; Valvetrain design (DOHC / SOHC, etc), Gears (timing drive design), CCV (Crank case ventilation), Aftertreatment (e.g., DEF etc), Fuel systems (fuel delivery, handling, H2 would be very useful), Air handling (e.g., intake manifold, throttle, etc), Major castings, etc.

Note, the Systems Engineer roles are office based in Derbyshire.
