Axcis Education are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEND school, who are searching for a teacher to join their team in September 2024. This would be a full time position, working Monday to Friday, until Christmas initially. The role may be extended into 2025 and potentially may become a permanent position for the right applicant.

The role is based in a large specialist setting in Blackburn. The school caters for primary and secondary aged children with a range of needs. These needs are predominantly a wide range of learning difficulties including Autism, PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, sensory impairments and physical disabilities. The successful applicant would be provided the flexibility to work in the class that best suits their skill set, in part due to the broad range of needs within the school. There are excellent facilities onsite, including a wide range of sensory rooms, hydrotherapy, a 4D sensory studio and lots of outdoor space for pupils to utilise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver individualized lessons and learning activities in accordance with each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that caters to the unique needs of students with ASD, PMLD, SLD, and complex medical needs

• Assess and monitor student progress, adapting teaching strategies and interventions as necessary

• Work closely with colleagues, parents, carers, and external agencies to support student development and well-being

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure holistic support for students

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, ideally with a specialization in SEND education. Though the school are also happy to consider applicants from mainstream backgrounds.

• A child and adult DBS on the update service (if you do not have one, Axcis will help you apply for a new one)

• Proven experience in teaching students with SEND, particularly those with ASD, PMLD, SLD, and complex medical needs

• Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with children with SEND
