Job Description
KIPP Indy Public Schools seeks an experienced Director of Student Health (DSH) who will lead and create the emerging Student Health program across KIPP Indy’s network of schools. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the DSH will be a member of KIPP Indy’s regional team and collaborate with the operations team, external partners, and will directly manage the KIPP Indy Student Health team (nursing staff). The DSH will work to ensure KIPP Indy Public Schools is living out our commitment to equity through providing student health services that drives student attendance and retention outcomes, establishes positive healthcare outcomes for our students, and increases student academic outcomes.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
Healthcare Services
Provides assessment, evaluation, management, and referral for medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions and in emergency situations for injuries.
Maintains all student health records including student physicals for athletics; conducts immunization audits and reviews medication records to ensure compliance. Provide hearing and vision screenings for students.
Facilitates education, training, counseling, and guidance to students and staff in the maintenance of good health practices and disease prevention; promotes participation in healthy behaviors.
Serves as the liaison and facilitator for access to health care resources in the community.
Coordinates first aid and CPR compliance training for staff members in assigned schools.
Provide medical treatment and first aid to students and staff. Develop health plans, consult with physicians and parents.
Directly manage Student Health team (school nurses).
Spearheads student and family consent form and agreement compliance.
Pursue billable visits with students and families focused on healthcare needs, inclusive of sports physicals and needed immunizations. In conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner, create catch-up immunization schedules for students as needed to push towards immunization compliance.
Monitors and enhances the effectiveness, efficiency, staff productivity, and customer satisfaction for the Student Health team.
Coordinate with school-based Directors of Operations regarding staff training, Student Health team support, compliance, and student needs.
Always maintains the confidentiality of any patient or employee medical, financial, or other personal information, records, and data to which there is access.
Views, uses, or discloses such information only for reasons necessary to perform duties.
Responsible to challenge unauthorized individuals from viewing such confidential patient or employee information or accessing restricted areas.
Participates in necessary student health events that may occur on non-school days, e.g., Back to School Nights
Management and Budget
Effectively manage the Student Health team in a manner consistent with organizational policies and values and in a way that ensure long-term retention of the Student Health team.
Develop and provide departmental orientation to newly hired clinical staff, coordinate any ongoing training and development activities.
Spearhead creation of KIPP Indy Student Health processes and policies and ensures the Student Health team complies with all such procedures.
Serves as medical risk management lead and trains and supports additional risk management leads to refine medical best practices.
Manage the Student Health budget and manage purchasing of all supplies, contracted services, etc. needed within the clinics.
Demonstrates fiscal accountability.
Spearhead implementation of an EMR and train staff as needed on the process to ensure insurance compliance and reimbursement.
Monitors and enhances the effectiveness, efficiency, staff productivity, and customer satisfaction for the Student Health team.
Coordinate scheduling of the Student Health team between clinics and utilize agency nursing coverage as needed to fully-staff the clinics.
Spearhead the process of insurance credentialing to ensure billable services are able to be reimbursed.
Leads strategic planning for the Student Health team and seeks to grow their impact year-over-year.
Ensures all members of the Student Health team are up to date on all needed training, continuous learning requirements
Must be able to travel between campuses.
