Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Indy Public Schools seeks an experienced School-Based Nurse Practitioner (SBNP) who will support health needs across the KIPP Indy Public Schools community and campuses. Reporting to the Director of Student Health, the SBNP will be a member of KIPP Indy’s regional team and collaborate closely with the Managing Director of Campus Operations, the operations team, and external partners to prepare for and respond to the student and school needs as it relates to student health. The SBNP will work to ensure KIPP Indy Public Schools is living out our commitment to equity through providing student health services that drives student attendance and retention outcomes, establishes positive healthcare outcomes for our students, and increases student academic outcomes.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
Healthcare Services
Works to remove, modify, or reduce health-related barriers to learning
Provides well-student care, health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance to students at their school; creates a comforting and nurturing environment for ill students
Provides daily, individual care to students, including but not limited to managing daily medications required by students, administering doctor prescribed medications to students and helping students with physical disabilities
Assesses health status through obtainment of relevant health history and comprehensive physical exam, preventive screening, and identification of medical risk factors.
Formulates appropriate differential diagnosis and identification of individual, family and community needs.
Develops treatment plan to maximize the health potential of the individual, family, and/or community.
Orders and adjusts medications per collaborative written agreement and prescriptive authority in accordance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, or in consultation with the physician.
Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards for nursing practice.
Serves as a clinical resource for the nursing team and other KIPP Indy staff, physicians, and other health care providers.
Functions as a clinical expert by providing consultative services to health team members and community.
Markets consultative services and educational programs to the other health team members to problem-solve complex clinical situations and positively impact patient and family outcomes
Provides assessment, evaluation, management, and referral for medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions and in emergency situations for injuries.
Maintains all student health records including student physicals for athletics; conducts immunization audits and reviews medication records to ensure compliance. Provide hearing and vision screenings for students
Provide medical treatment and first aid to students and staff. Develop health plans, consult with physicians and parents.
Pursue billable visits with students and families focused on healthcare needs, inclusive of sports physicals and needed immunizations. In conjunction with the DSH, create catch-up immunization schedules for students as needed to push towards immunization compliance.
Coordinate with school-based Directors of Operations regarding staff training, Student Health team support, compliance, and student needs.
Always maintains the confidentiality of any patient or employee medical, financial, or other personal information, records, and data to which there is access.
Views, uses, or discloses such information only for reasons necessary to perform duties.
Responsible to challenge unauthorized individuals from viewing such confidential patient or employee information or accessing restricted areas.
