The Cobol Developer will provide support in the design, development, and maintenance of Cobol, while maintaining a user-centered and business-oriented approach to design.
Expertly analyzes, designs, develops, implements, and tests data-centric applications in a Mainframe environment, integrating third-party data when necessary.
Translates technical specifications and logical and physical designs into code for new or enhanced projects, whether for internal or external clients.
Develops well-structured COBOL code that incorporates reusable subroutines or objects, includes sufficient comments, and is easy to maintain.
Writes COBOL programs, ad hoc queries, and reports.
Participates in design, code, and test inspections throughout the entire lifecycle to identify issues and ensure compliance with methodologies.
Writes the system/technical portion of assigned deliverables and assists other technical team members, such as systems testers, with their deliverables, including test plans. In small teams, the developer may be responsible for writing these items.
Performs unit testing and develops appropriate unit test plans to ensure that all requirements are met.
Provides assistance in integration, production support, systems, acceptance, and other related testing as required.
Requirements
Extensive expertise in Cobol development
Proficiency in programming languages, including COBOL, JCL, TSO, and ISPF
Knowledge of mainframe systems like IBM z/OS
Experience in dataset management
Familiarity with scripting
Understanding of SDLC and Agile development methodologies
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
